Psychiatric order for man guilty of attempted murder

A man found guilty of attempted murder has been sent to a psychiatric unit and given an indefinite restraining order.

Kubilay Bostanli, 27, of Devizes in Wiltshire, chased his victim – who he had a "delusional obsession" with – through the town before stabbing him.

The incident happened on 29 June 2024 at around 12:30 BST. Bostanli had started his attack at the victim's home before chasing after him into a shop and down a street.

Bostanli, who doctors said was mentally unwell, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on 25 April.

The court heard that the victim, a man in his 20s, ran when Bostanli attacked him in his home, and was then assaulted inside a butcher's shop.

Judge Morris described it as a "prolonged attack" in which Bostanli was the "aggressor throughout".

The court was told the victim now plans to leave Wiltshire.

Bostanli, of Anzio Road, was also found guilty of assaulting the police officer who detained him.

The judge said the police officer and members of the public who helped with first aid should be commended.
